The Blues reached the semifinals of the 2011 Super Rugby tournament before bowing out to eventual winners Queensland Reds.

The 2012 Blues rugby jerseys have the same design as the 2011 edition as the jerseys are due to have a two season run.

The Blues have several star acts in their squad and this season will be joined by All Black scrumhalf Piri Weepu.
